Parents Day Out
We held the first ever "Parents-Day Out" yesterday at the Auburn University Autism Center. Eleven volunteers from the Student Government Associations couped with six volunteer doctoral/masters students and staff from the AUAC to host eleven students with autism ages four to eleven. The event lasted four hours. The students engaged in various activities with their "buddies" and with each other. The event came to a close with a movie and popcorn as the parents returned from their day spending time with each other and "typical" siblings. It was fun. The event increased autism awareness for the volunteers and provided much needed respite for the families.
